[Her first thought is that among everything she misses from the old world, spam calls are not among them.

Then she takes that thought a few steps further and realizes this is just the Barge communicator, and that she recognizes him in turn. She's found her way to a quiet place to lay low, but she still doesn't flip on the camera when she replies, but her tone is anything but friendly, her voice tense.]

What do you want?

I want to talk to you about something that you might not want to be on the communicators.

If you don't feel comfortable meeting in person, there are other options but I want to give you the options.

Like what?

[ He's so tired. All the same- ]

I have a little money left over from today. I could buy a pair of communication devices, walkie talkies. I'd put them in an agreed upon spot. We could talk like that.

[She knows, intellectually, that this is Astarion's assigned warden. She knows, also, that he helped her earlier today.

It does not even occur to her that this could be about that. And so:]

I don't even know what this is about. I'm not going anywhere.

What happened while you were with Astarion.

I wasn't sure if you'd want that to be on the communicator. Your warden can see your half of the conversation on a communicator.

I haven't been with Astarion.

Right. So you're fine with this happening on the communicator?

Whatever 'this' is, this is the only way it happens.

From what I saw, they weren't attacking anyone when Astarion stabbed the first man.

Well people generally don't follow someone for half an hour and corner them in a dead end to deliver sweepstakes prizes.

Did anyone tell you about how it works with the ports, as in

As in how they make it so that even people who don't look like what that place sees as 'people' can walk around?

So when we come into port, there's something of an image overlaid on us. It makes us look like the people there. Back before I had a body, it made me look like I had a body. In fact, the body I have now is patterned on what I usually looked like, because it was an easy image to remember.

There's a lot of people here passing secret messages and doing secret work. Spies, I think they're called. Anyway, I had the filter work too well and look like someone who was supposed to meet someone else. I got into a fight because of it. And another time, someone just handed me an envelope and walked away. A-and one time, in the park, someone recited half of a poem and I recited the other half of the poem and then they handed me a ring.

...I had to wait around until someone else came and do the poem thing to get it to the right person later but anyway-

They might not have been trying to kill you. They might have been trying to pass you a message or give you something or warn you about something.

[She's not so far gone that she doesn't feel a twinge of... something. She's a murderer, she's had to admit to herself, but it was never because she wanted to be. She just wanted to be left alone.

But it's not enough she could be called sorry either. She was clearly trying to get away. She warned them. End of.]

I told them to go away. They didn't.

I didn't get the feeling you wanted to kill anyone. You looked... distressed.

[She's not. It isn't because of this by a long shot but she's self aware enough to know a symptom when she's shown one.

Nothing she's interested in confiding to a stranger. Or anyone.]
